Project Details:
Poulaphouca Reservoir is located near Burgage More, Blessington, Co. Wicklow and forms part of the Liffey Hydroelectric Scheme in the Liffey Valley. Ongoing erosion and slope stability issues at the reservoir over many years had resulted in erosion of the shoreline. ESB owns and manages the land on the perimeter of the reservoir. The erosion of the shoreline has impinged on properties at several locations with some loss of land.
The works will therefore aim to prevent further erosion of the shoreline between the Avon Ri complex and the shoreline. Works included erosion stabilization and control measures at the locations identified to eliminate or reduce further curtailment of the shoreline.
The scope of works included the following:
- Installation of rock armour
- Regrading of existing slope profile
- Installation of cut-off drain at crest
- Installation of pedestrian access at Lacken
- Landscaping /planting
- Temporary access track construction
- Temporary site compound set-up
- Installation of temporary and permanent signage and fencing.
